Sudtirol, Italy's northernmost professional team, aims for Serie B with careful management and investments in youth development. The team, founded in 1995 by local entrepreneurs, has had slow but steady growth, made possible by careful management and financial privileges as a company based in a special statute region. Sudtirol won the Promozione championship after a season in which it was never defeated and in two years arrived in Serie D. In 1997 the company underwent a small reorganization and a new management was appointed, always composed of local entrepreneurs. After three years in Serie D, the team obtained its first promotion among professionals coached by Giuseppe Sannino, who then had a decent career as a coach between Serie A and Serie B. Sudtirol has also invested heavily in youth development, which from then on regularly provided players to the youth teams of many top Serie A teams. Investments in youth development led the team to have more and more Alto Adige players in the squad, which tied the club even more to the territory, where football is not even among the most popular sports. And in 2006, most of the current management was appointed, with local entrepreneurs Werner Seeber as president and Dietmar Pfeifer as CEO. The new company reorganized the youth sector and led the team to have more and more Alto Adige players in the squad. So Sudtirol's team is one of the best teams in Serie C and aims for promotion to Serie B. But the road to Serie B will not be easy, because Sudtirol will have to face stronger and more experienced teams.
